I'm interested . . . what works for you & your family / spouse / household / prayer partner / friend . . . to study the Bible and pray together regularly? Paul & I find it challenging to do this on a daily basis as a couple (we need more discipline & to get to bed earlier :)) . . . but as a family, we've made it a priority and put it on our schedule first thing each morning to worship, study, and pray together. I think it is encouraging and inspiring to hear what works for others . . . let's spur one another on!

Helping Each Other Wait Expectantly

Last night I hung out with a couple of women who have walked a little ahead of me in certain life journeys. As I considered where they have been in light of where I am, and as I read the passage of Psalm 62 this morning, I am amazed.

Part of what Karen talked about, us needing to "stick together," is made more joyful when we realize the blessing it is to walk with each other and support one another. In the Amplified Bible, there's a portion of Psalm 62 that talks about trusting in, leaning into, submitting silently and waiting expectantly to and for the Lord.

In our fellowship with each other, my prayer is that it will go deep enough for us to understand the trials that others around us face, and that our fellowship will endure through the experiences that encourage us to "trust in" the God Most High; to "lean into" the Lord; to "submit silently" to His Lordship and to "wait expectantly" for the goodness we know is in Him.

I'm thankful this morning for those who encourage me to trust, lean, submit and wait with expectation. Lord, may I give to others at least what I have been given. Make in me a heart that walks with others and encourages them the way that I have been encouraged. Amen.

Be still and know that I am God

As I was reading the passages of today I one again became reminded of the value and importance of waiting on the Lord. "Be Still and know that I am God" is such a powerful and impactful verse, and it has really been a very significant verse in my life.

I repent of the times in my life where I try to do and plan things out of my own strength and not out of yours, Lord.

My prayer is to have one pure and holy passion, a magnificent obsession, to wait on the Lord in everything that I do and think. Help me to think, to know, to follow and to wait for You with a freedom, like that of eagles and with a patience that trusts in your faithfulness.

Thank You for showing me your faithfulness through my work situation. You alone are God!
Amen.

Change my heart

As I was driving to work this morning meditating on today's devotional, an old song came to me that is so appropriate for this fast and is the cry of my heart: "Change my heart, O God. Make it ever true. Change my heart, O God. May I be like you. You are the potter, I am the clay. Mold me and make me, this is what I pray. Change my heart, O God. Make it ever true. Change my heart O God, may I be like you."
Father,
This is my heart's cry. Change me and mold me into Christ's image. Take away this heart of stone and renew and reshape it into exactly the way you created it to be. I seem to want to hold onto my ways b/c they are so comfortable to me. But I'm tired of being comfortable. I just want more of you. So I give everything over to you once more and allow you to take complete control over every part of me. I seem to recollect a vision I had a couple of years ago of me taking my heart out of my chest and handing it up to you. You then not only took my heart but you reached in and removed your heart and lovingly handed it down to me. I then placed it into my chest. God, your love is so beautiful! I give you my heart once again. Replace it with yours.... Change me, O God!

I Want To Love You More

I used my Vine's to do a word study of Hebrew words "heart - leb", "soul - nepes" and "strength- hayil", and here's the prayer that emerged:

Lord, I want to love you with my whole heart, with all my emotions, love you in wyas I didn't know I was capable of loving (like with Anna and Rachel). Remove my heart of stone and give me a new heart - alive with love for you (Ez 36:26). Create in me a clean heart (Ps. 51:10), circumcise my heart - cut away sin and filthy pride (Deut 30:6). I can't know my own heart (Jer 17:19) - only you can know the depths of my sin and the depths of possibility for redemption and deeper love for you!

I want to love you with my entire soul, my entire being, the essence of who I am for which there is no word (note: there's acutally no direct English translation for the Hebrew word Nepes), the me that no one else knows. Behind all appearances, I want to love you deeply. I want to breathe you in and breathe out love back to you.

All of my strength is from you, and I want to give it right back to you in love, and who had any idea that "strength" has so many meanings? All of my power to create, to do, to accomplish, all of my skills and abilities (includeing thos in the home), all of my influence - family, neighbors, small group, all my $ - every dollar is yours, my courage, my warrior-spirit, - may all aspects of my strength exude love for you, true love, which is ironically a gift from you!
